Professor Dr. David B. Hoyt MD FACS

Professor Dr. Hoyt is the John E. Connolly Professor of Surgery and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine.  He is also the Executive Vice-Dean.

Prior to 2006 he was at the University of California, San Diego, where he was Chief of the Division of Trauma, Burn and Surgical Care.

He undertook a fellowship in immunopathology at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation.

Professor Dr. Hoyt is the former Chairman of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Committee on Trauma and is a current member of its executive committee. In addition, he is Medical Director of the ACS Trauma, Research and Optimal Patient Care Division.

Award: In addition he has received the following awards: In 2007, Professor Dr. Hoyt received The American College of Surgeons - 2007 Distinguished Service Award (the highest honour bestowed by The American College of Surgeons).  He has also received the Orange County Physician of Excellence Award; American College of Cardiology Life Time Achievement Award in Shock; The Robert Danis Prize of the International Society of Surgery; and he was Selected as One of America's Best® Doctor's.

Committee Member: Professor Dr. Hoyt is also the Medical Director of Trauma, American College of Surgeons. he is an Executive Committee Member of American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma and the Chairman of Trauma, Research and Optimal Patient Care Division of The American College of Surgeons. He is also a Director of The U.S. National Trauma Institute. Furthermore he is also an Examiner of American Board of Surgery.

Past Positions: Professor Dr. Hoyt is a Past President of American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, Past President of Society of General Surgeons of San Diego, Past President of Shock Society, Past Chairman of American College of Surgeons, Committee on Trauma, and a Past Chairman of the numerous committees within The American College of Surgeons - Trauma Registry Subcommittee, National TRACS and The National Trauma Databank. He is also the Past Medical Director of American College of Surgeons Trauma Programme.

Editorial Board: Professor Dr. Hoyt is on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Trauma, Injury, Infection & Critical Care (JTrauma), SHOCK, Journal of the American College of Surgeons, Circulation, Annals of Surgery, Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, World Journal of Emergency Surgery.
